Let’s face it, surgery always some degree of pain, swelling, restriction of activities, and delay before seeing the final result. Not to mention the cost, and the anxiety of having to undergo anesthesia. So nonsurgical alternatives have an understandable appeal. These alternatives are not the equivalent of surgery, however, and expectations need to be realistic. Most people by now are familiar with injectable fillers for facial rejuvenation including Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane. On May 5th I'll be at Dr. Pierre Lebrecque's Derma Spa Med in Santa Maria for an event promoting aesthetic dermatology and plastic surgery in Santa Maria. He has a beautiful facility where I see patients two days a month, as well as a state of the art surgery center next door where I do surgery (Santa Maria Ambulatory Laser and Surgery Center).
