After your cosmetic surgery is complete, we go above and beyond traditional postoperative care. We are one of the few practices to use alternative methods as well. Our breast augmentation patients experience decreased postoperative discomfort because we offer a safe, convenient, portable Stryker Pain Pump®, which is placed during surgery. This offers a dramatic reduction in postoperative pain.  In addition, we offer a homeopathic nutritional supplement program, which includes Arnica and Bromelain (a pineapple enzyme). These nutrients have been recognized for their ability to reduce bruising and swelling.

Out of Town Patients

Our office is experienced in accommodating patients that have traveled from the East coast and Europe for their surgery, so even if you're only coming from Los Angeles or San Luis Obispo, we'll be able to make the experience as easy as possible.

With today's capabilities of digital transfer of images or video as well as "old fashioned" email, we can receive your images and Dr. Mackenzie can do a "pre-consult" and give you an idea what plastic surgery may offer.  On that basis, arrangements can often be made for the necessary face-to-face consult, followed by surgery within a short period of time.  Depending on what procedure you will have will dictate what sort of follow-up you will need and how long you will need to stay in Santa Barbara, or when you will need to return to Santa Barbara for a follow-up visit.

If you live within a couple hours' drive from Santa Barbara, such as Beverly Hills, you could certainly return home after most plastic surgery procedures, but staying in Santa Barbara is a great way to recuperate in a relaxed environment.  We offer a complimentary overnight stay in Santa Barbara for our out of town cosmetic surgery patients, and we will arrange for any additional accommodations, post-operative nursing,  or transportation.  If coming from the Los Angeles area, we can also arrange a stay for you at Villa Milana, an outstanding plastic surgery aftercare facility in Sherman Oaks.

Dr. Mackenzie will certainly want to see you back for follow-up, but we can often arrange post-operative follow-up with a surgeon in your area if schedules demand it.  Your post-operative follow-up with Dr. Mackenzie can then be scheduled when you are able.  

Traveling, particularly via the airlines, can be stressful and unpredictable.  Recovery after your cosmetic surgery procedure depends on the type of surgery you have, as well as a myriad of other issues, and so you should discuss your travel plans in detail with Dr. Mackenzie prior to your procedure.  He will only do surgery if he can fully evaluate you beforehand, and if travel after surgery will not compromise your safety or your result.
