Liposuction in Santa Barbara by Dr. Mackenzie
Liposuction is a fantastic way to remove stubborn areas of fat that may be difficult to get rid of through diet and exercise. Liposuction can shape and firm the hips, thighs, arms, neck, chin, abdomen, and buttocks by eliminating excess accumulations of fat cells. For younger patients it can give them that Santa Barbara beach-ready body, address the male "spare tire", or be part of a mommy makeover.
Dr. Mackenzie believes that the most important factor in getting a nice result after liposuction is the surgeon's skill and finesse, but liposuction technology has advanced to where certain devices now offer powerful tools to do things that conventional liposuction can't do. Laser assisted liposuction (SmartLipo), water assisted liposuction (Body-Jet), and Cellulaze cellulite treatment offer a spectrum of options to allow Dr. Mackenzie to customize his body contouring treatment to your individual needs.

The best candidates for liposuction are those that are in good shape with good quality, elastic skin, but with troublesome fat pockets that are out of proportion with the rest of their body. That said, SmartLipo can have a skin tightening and firming effect for some patients.
The liposuction procedures require Dr. Mackenzie to make small incisions near the area to be contoured. Through these incisions, he instills a tumescent solution and then narrow metal canulas are used which suction the excess fat out of the problem areas. Once the area has reached the desired contour, each incision is closed with a single stitch. Dressings and a compression garment are applied. Liposuction is done under general anesthesia, but can be performed under local anesthesia in many cases where limited areas are done or less traumatic techniques are used, such as with SmartLipo. Side effects of liposuction include some soreness, swelling, bruising, and burning sensations. These begin to subside in a few days and you'll begin to see the new contour, although the ultimate result will take several months.
