Pacific Plastic Surgery Medical Weight Loss
Pacific Plastic Surgery is now offering a medical weight loss program. This program is structured around a 3 month course of medications and supplements, all of which are safe and established as effective components of a medical weight loss program. Initial consultation will be done with Jessica Barker, PA or Cassie Clara, RN. and if you are a candidate for the program, an EKG and some simple blood tests will be ordered. The medications and supplements will then be prescribed and you will be monitored weekly at the office for the first month, then monthly thereafter. We also urge our patients to take advantage of a complimentary fitness and nutrition evaluation by Wesley Wilson of Wesley Wilson Fitness.
Why a Weight Loss program at a plastic surgery practice?
For years I’ve seen patients come to me for consultation regarding body contouring. Usually these folks are candidates for liposuction or abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedures, and sometimes even for more extensive procedures such as lower body lifts and belt lipectomies. These more extensive procedures are done for patients who have had significant weight loss, usually after bariatric surgery.
Most liposuction and abdominoplasty patients tend to be near their ideal weight, or perhaps slightly overweight. They’re the best candidates for surgery. But then there are those patients who would really do well to lose some weight before surgery. Some may just need to lose weight period, and would not otherwise need any surgery. These are the patients that I have seen for years that are somewhat frustrating, because I often have felt that I couldn’t really help them. And if I did try to help with surgery, I knew the patient could have had a better result with some preliminary weight loss.
Many patients I saw had been through several diets, with varying success, but often ending in frustration. Some thought that surgery would be a quick fix. Occasionally I would refer patients out to nutritionists, fitness trainers, and in extreme circumstances to bariatric surgeons. I often never saw these patients again, and I’m not sure how many were helped, gave up, or went elsewhere to someone who performed surgery on them even if they were not good candidates for body contouring. So, there was a segment of patients that I realized could be helped with a medical weight loss program within our office, supplemented by fitness and nutritional guidance.

We will review the program schedule, and discuss your prescription weight loss medications. Included in your initial consultation will be an injection of a Vitamin B Complex and an amino acid formulation. Once the results of your EKG and blood work are obtained, we will call in your prescriptions to your local pharmacy.
We will see you weekly for the first three months or until the weight goal is reached and then bi-monthly after that.
