What is a Mommy Makeover?

Motherhood brings an unimaginable amount of joy, the experience of unconditional love and is by far one of the most rewarding experiences a woman can have. Unfortunately, most women don’t love the toll that pregnancy and breastfeeding has on their bodies. While a healthy lifestyle is essential, many women find that despite eating healthy and working out, it can be difficult to get their pre-baby bodies back.

The “Mommy Makeover” refers to a combination of surgeries that help to restore the body to how it was prior to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Pregnancy causes the muscles in the abdomen to stretch out and also leaves many women with excess tissue that remains despite any amount of diet and exercise. Breastfeeding tends to leave the breasts deflated and sagging. A combination of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and either a breast lift (mastopexy) and/or implants (breast augmentation) is what most women desire to get their pre-baby bodies back. Sometimes liposuction is also done with a tummy tuck to contour the abdomen. To see a brief video with Dr. Mackenzie explaining more about a tummy tuck, click here.

It is best to wait until you are finished having children and reach your ideal weight with diet and exercise before considering this type of procedure. We ultimately are concerned with our patients overall health, and encourage any patients that are interested in this type of procedure to be within 10-15 pounds of their target weight to achieve optimal results. In our practice, we offer a weight loss program that many of our patients find helpful if they are struggling to reach their goal weight which you can read about here.

If you have the desire to restore your body to how it was prior to pregnancy, a mommy makeover may be something to consider. As with any surgery, it is important to do your research and find a surgeon that you feel most comfortable with. Dr. Mackenzie and the staff at Pacific Plastic Surgery are always here to answer any of your questions and give you all the information necessary to help you look and feel your best.
