En Bloc Capsulectomy (Implant Explantation)
This 42 yr-old patient was experiencing systemic health issues she felt were related to her implants. These included dizziness, headaches, and anxiety for which she took daily Xanax. She opted for implant removal with en-bloc capsulectomy. She was 5’7″ 125 lbs and her implants were McGhan 700 ml nominal volume, smooth saline. Symptoms were nearly resolved 3 weeks after surgery. At one year following explantation and en bloc capsulectomy, she remains symptom free and no longer takes Xanax. Because of her large implants and little native breast tissue, a full mastopexy was necessary to address the significant excess skin. Fortunately, her lengthy scars healed well.
