At Pacific Plastic Surgery in Santa Barbara, Dr. Mackenzie often performs tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedures for individuals with excess skin and fat in their abdominal area.
Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a procedure to rejuvenate the abdomen and to flatten it and tighten it and it is typically done in women who have had children and have been pregnant and so their abdominal wall is somewhat stretched out and they have some extra skin and fat on the front of their abdomens. A typical abdominoplasty involves removing the skin and fat from the lower abdomen, tightening the entire abdominal wall, actually bringing the muscles together because they tend to spread out with pregnancies. Those muscles will not come together with just exercise. Some people are candidates for mini abdominoplasty which is not as extensive but if they just have a little bit of extra skin and fat in the lower abdomen, we can do a mini abdominoplasty leave them with a shorter incision and still re-contour and flatten their lower abdominal wall. I occasionally do liposuction with the abdominoplasty which would typically be around the waist. Sometimes the abdominoplasty does not really get that so the liposuction just makes it that much better.
