Browlift – Dr. Douglas Mackenzie in Santa Barbara

The endoscopic browlift is a minimally invasive surgery that reduces the appearance of lines in the forehead and gives the orbit (the eye socket) a more open, awake appearance. The brow is typically elevated to a natural degree, and the “deer in the headlights” look of an old fashioned open browlift is avoided. Dr. Mackenzie also performs other types of browlifts, including open lifts and trans-blepharoplasty browlifts (done through the upper eyelid during a blepharoplasty), depending on the pattern of aging of the brow.

During the endoscopic browlift procedure, Dr. MacKenzie inserts a small camera, or endoscope, through small incisions he has made behind the hairline. He then lifts the skin and soft tissues of the brow away from the underlying bone and tightens the underlying tissue. Usually, an internal Endotine device is used on each side to secure the tissues in the elevated position until they are healed. This device ultimately dissolves and disappears.

The consultation for a browlift assesses the forehead, eyebrow, and upper eyelid from the standpoints of sagging, wrinkles, excess skin, and dynamic function. It is common for someone who needs a browlift also to need an upper lid blepharoplasty, but many times the browlift will open up the eye area without the need for a blepharoplasty. In fact, people often think that they need an upper blepharoplasty, but in reality their problem is mainly the brow. In these cases it is a mistake to ignore the brow, and doing a blepharoplasty alone may actually worsen the situation. A combined procedure, or even a browlift alone, may get the results the patient is looking for.  As lower face aging often occurs with upper face aging, facelift may be indicated to rejuvenate the cheeks and neck.  Scar and skin care is vital to get the best aesthetic result after facial surgery; see our page on products that we include in your browlift package HERE.
