Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty by Dr.Mackenzie in Santa Barbara
The so-called non-surgical rhinoplasty is somewhat of a misnomer, as “rhinoplasty” implies a surgical procedure. However, the nonsurgical rhinoplasty can be an alternative to actual surgery for some patients who have certain contour problems of their nose.
Whether from heredity, injury, or as the result of previous surgery, these contour problems can be filled, smoothed, or enhanced by fillers that we commonly use for non-surgical aesthetic procedures in Santa Barbara. You may be familiar with these products (Radiesse, Restylane, and Juvederm) and their other aesthetic uses in the face. Dr. Mackenzie’s preference is Radiesse for most nonsurgical rhinoplasty procedures.
The patients who are candidates for nonsurgical rhinoplasty generally have contour dips or depressions that can be filled by one of these products. Some asymmetries can likewise be camouflaged with some strategically placed filler. In noses with a flatter shape of the dorsum, such as many Asian noses, filler placed along the dorsum can give a more defined contour.
Certainly surgical rhinoplasty is an option, and is the more traditional option. A surgical rhinoplasty will also create a permanent fix, unlike nonsurgical rhinoplasty where the filler is a temporary solution and will dissipate over time. Although the fillers used in nonsurgical rhinoplasty are not permanent, Dr. Mackenzie has had patients enjoy their results for well over a year in most cases, and sometimes more than two years.
The cost of nonsurgical rhinoplasty is much less than that of surgical rhinoplasty, but the procedure will need to be repeated over time. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is a quick procedure with virtually no downtime, just some mild discomfort and swelling afterward. Dr. Mackenzie will err on the side of undercorrection, and have you return within two weeks to assess the change and possibly place more filler (at no additional charge). This is a procedure where precise placement of filler is critical, and overcorrection is not desirable nor easily corrected. There is anesthetic mixed with the filler, so the procedure itself is not too uncomfortable.
You will need to have a consultation with Dr. Mackenzie to assess whether you are a candidate for surgical versus nonsurgical rhinoplasty. Call Pacific Plastic Surgery in Santa Barbara to schedule a consultation for nonsurgical rhinoplasty with Dr. Mackenzie.
