What is a face-lift?

A face-lift addresses your midface and neck, from your cheekbones down to the bottom of the neck.

Face-lifts don’t help with eyelid or forehead aging, which are often addressed by eyelid-lift (blepharoplasty) and brow-lift procedures, respectively. However, Dr. Mackenzie can often perform these procedures at the same time as a face-lift.

Am I a good candidate for a face-lift?

If you’re looking to improve sagging or wrinkles on your face, you should schedule a consultation with Dr. Mackenzie to discuss face-lifts. Strong candidates for face-lifts include men and women who:

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle
  • Don’t smoke
  • Don’t have trouble with healing

You should speak to Dr. Mackenzie before your procedure to talk through your expectations to see if the surgery can realistically achieve those goals.

Will it be obvious that I got a face-lift?

Most people ask this question by saying, “I don’t want to look like ____ (insert over-operated celebrity name here)”. There’s no need to worry though, as it’s difficult to get that bizarre over-operated look if you’ve never had plastic surgery before.

Usually, the over-operated look stems from too many surgeries, or doing the wrong surgery on someone who already had previous surgery. Dr. Mackenzie understands that it’s critical to use face-lift techniques that not only avoid the over-operated look, but also correct unnatural appearance from previous surgery.

Are there less invasive face-lift procedures?

Dr. Mackenzie always tries to limit incisions and scars whenever possible. However, there are some options for people who meet specific criteria.

For younger patients with good skin elasticity, a mini face-lift may be an option. A mini face-lift uses a smaller or remote incision, along with other techniques customized for particular aging changes.

Other patients may qualify for Precision TxⓇ, a minimally invasive laser procedure that can help with neck, jowl, and lower cheek tightening and rejuvenation. In the right patient, it can provide improvement in these areas safely, and with less cost and recovery than with more traditional techniques.

What is the recovery like after a face-lift?

Recovery from the surgery involves swelling and bruising, but most people are comfortable going out in public in about two weeks. Your appearance continues to improve for many more weeks after that.
